Safe Travels - Photopolymer

Generations of cairns are visible across the mountains and along the coast. A cairn is the mountain’s analogue GPS: no batteries, no signal, and no one telling you, “turn when possible.” Since the Viking Age, they have stood to show the way—small piles of stone that grow into impressive structures with a little help from those who pass by.

Cairns were meant to guide travellers through mist and snow in the mountains, and serve as beacons for those at sea. They were often marked with rings or painted colors to make them easy to see and distinguish from one another. Today, we most often recognize them by a red T, but their purpose remains the same: ensuring safe travels.

About the technique

Photopolymer is a modern intaglio process where a digitized image is transferred onto a light-sensitive plate using UV light, then developed in water. The plate is printed in the manner of traditional intaglio, combining photographic detail with the texture and depth of printmaking.

Each print is considered an original. Every impression is hand-inked and pressed by the myself, giving each work subtle differences and its own personality. Because the process is both careful and time-consuming, editions are kept deliberately small.

About the print

• Motif: The motif itself is composed entirely of thousands of tiny ink dots. A slow and time consuming technique known as stippling 

• Edition: The prints are signed and produced in a limited edition of 7. Each print also includes a signed certificate of authenticity.

• Paper: The prints are created on thick, textured, high quality Hahnemühle paper, in 100% cotton.

• Size: The print measures about 26 x 26cm. The paper is torn by hand, so there will be small differences. The motif itself is just below 14 x 14 cm

Shipping

In Norway, shipping is always free. Your order is sent via tracked post and usually arrives within 3–5 business days, unless «Posten» has other ideas.

For international orders, shipping is between flat 200-400NOK depending on the country, and your package typically takes 7–14 business days, depending on how friendly customs is feeling.

Important information for International orders

Orders shipped outside Norway may be subject to import VAT, customs duties, and handling fees. I’d love to skip that bit for you, but your local authorities might have other plans.
