Telemarks Tokke
A heraldic tribute to Tokke's heritage.
Historical Context
The original coat of arms was approved by Royal Resolution in 1987 and designed by Stein Davidsen. The motif symbolises both the natural environment and the wildlife of the municipality, as well as courage and strength. In earlier times, a resident population of bears roamed these parts, and local lore still recalls the exploits of great bear hunters from the area.
Across Norway, bear motifs appear in several municipal coats of arms, including those of Buskerud, Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg, Eidsberg and Flå. Yet the simple image of a solitary walking bear had not been claimed – and so it was chosen for Tokke.
Artistic Interpretation
In my interpretation, the bear walks upon whetstone from Eidsborg, while other hallmarks of the municipality are woven into the composition: the stately Dalen Hotel, Lake Bandak, and of course Victoria of the Telemark Canal.
About the print

- Edition: Each print is signed and issued in a hand-numbered limited edition of 150. Each print also includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
- Paper: Printed on thick, subtly textured Hahnemühle paper made from 100% cotton, valued for its durability and timeless quality.
